Position Overview:

Santis Health, a leading strategic advisory consultancy dedicated to providing first-class counsel and support to clients exclusively in the health care and life sciences sectors is looking to hire a Vice President to manage and grow the company’s Western Canada government affairs business. Santis Health is a rapidly growing consulting firm, and this new venture offers an exciting opportunity to lead business in Western Canada, and build on our existing footprint in the region. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader, guiding the team when appropriate and doing the work when required.

Based in British Columbia, this ambitious, self-motivated individual will be a source of trusted counsel to clients at the very highest levels and will also contribute to a positive, performance-oriented culture within the company. The successful candidate will be a senior leader of the company and will use their superior management skills to lead and grow a team. They will drive change and business growth for Santis’ clients using strategic, creative and fully integrated approaches.

Successful applicants will have strong knowledge of government policy, regulatory and funding processes and a track record of driving meaningful change through advocacy.  Highly developed client relationship management skills are mandatory and experience working in communications is a strong benefit.  Although not essential, it would be a significant asset for the individual to have a strong personal brand and network within the health care community. 

If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, are able to formulate strategic business plans and then execute on them and have a high ability to develop new clients and foster current client relationships, this might be your role.

Requirements of Role:

  • Your first responsibility will be to help grow company revenues; through both organic growth of existing accounts and participation in identifying, pitching, and winning new client accounts.
  • A key responsibility and performance measure will be to manage and oversee Santis’ growing Western Canada Government Affairs practice (with a primary focus in British Columbia, but also able to lead and support engagements in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.)
  • You will be asked to mentor and provide support to all locally based staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Build rapport and credibility with clients, based on trust and expert counsel.
  • Lead account teams in all functional areas as dictated by current client needs.
  • Ensure client satisfaction with Santis’ services, outcomes, & staff and quickly and effectively resolve client problems or concerns if and as they arise.
  • Play a leadership role in coaching and facilitating professional development of staff, creating growth opportunities.
  • Take personal responsibility for mentoring & long-term career and personal development of staff.
  • Exemplify and actively foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Establish a physical presence for Santis Health in British Columbia by building out a team of locally-based staff.
  • Oversee the team in achieving year-upon-year client growth and account profitability.
  • Build new business from existing and new clients in with mutually agreed-upon objectives in British Columbia and Western Canada.
  • Proactively identify, respond to and lead new business opportunities.
  • Maintain and grow relationships, recognizing and capitalizing on emerging opportunities, to help clients succeed.
  • Quickly develop a strong understanding of the correlations within Santis Health’s three internal practice areas (Communications, Government Relations, and Strategy & Policy) and employ knowledge in order to build new opportunities for the firm.
  • Be an active leader for business in Western Canada Government Relations while mentoring locally-based staff to grow within all practice areas.
  • Develop an integrated marketing and business development plan for Western Canada in consultation with the senior leadership team within 90 days.

Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of working with Government and well-connected with government key influencers in British Columbia and Western Canada.
  • Experience in the health care system with a solid network in British Columbia and Western Canada is strongly preferred.
  • A self-starter who can work independently to create opportunities and solve problems.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills; including ability to inform, delegate, empower and motivate.
  • Client service excellence and relationship building and/or deep sectoral knowledge and specialized expertise.
  • A proven track record of effective management experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities.
  • Excellent EQ, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Able to work at both a leadership and tactical level.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; advanced degree preferred.

Position Overview:

Santis Health, a leading public affairs, communications and strategy consultancy focusing on the health care sector, is looking to hire a Government Relations Consultant. Based in our Ottawa office, this ambitious, self-motivated individual will work closely with the Santis federal government relations team to provide strategic problem solving, public policy and communications services to the senior leadership of the firm.

Applicants should have a sound knowledge of government affairs, public affairs, stakeholder relations and project management, as well as the most pressing health care and life sciences issues of the day. Previous experience working in health care, in government or as a consultant would be an advantage.

Responsibilities Include:

Account Support

  • Working closely with Santis team members to manage a wide range of client projects and deliverables
  • Leading account team in government relations areas as dictated by current client needs
  • Advising on government engagement, public affairs, and advocacy strategies
  • Interacting with government officials and decision-makers to build and maintain relationships
  • Tracking emerging and evolving public policy issues – and analyzing their implications to client organizations
  • Liaising with clients as part of ongoing project management responsibilities
  • Identifying key stakeholders and creating tailored stakeholder maps
  • Leading and participating in client strategy sessions
  • Developing government relations initiatives and strategies, a wide range of briefing notes, slide decks and other communication materials
  • Developing project management plans and keeping the project team focused on meeting multiple, tight timelines

Internal Support

  • Tracking and responding to RFPs (Requests for Proposals) and other business development opportunities
  • Assisting on development of proposals and other business development opportunities
  • Proactively identify/respond to new business opportunities
  • Drafting Santis-branded blogs, op-ed publications, news releases, policy reports and think pieces
  • Participating in the continued development of internal products and processes

Qualifications:

  • Degree in political science, public policy, economics, communications or a related field (or equivalent experience); post-graduate qualifications are beneficial
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience - government relations or advocacy preferred
  • Deep understanding of working with government and connected with government influencers
  • Proven track record of client service excellence (previous consulting experience OR deep sectoral knowledge/specialized expertise is an asset)
  • A solid mix of project management, policy analysis and communications experience
  • Able to work at both leadership and tactical level

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong research and analysis ability
  • Exceptional organizational skills with an ability to juggle multiple clients and projects
  • Skilled in priority-setting, efficient time-management and the ability to work independently
  • High level of professionalism
