Positioning an Urgent Supply Chain Issue: Medtech Canada

Assignment

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, global supply chains and shipments slowed. This crisis impacted the broader health care system in Canada, with critical medical technology and supply shortages across blood collection tubes for labs and epidural catheters for labour and delivery patients.

In response to urgent feedback and requests for support from their members, Medtech Canada sought to develop a plan and engage with government on how to tackle this urgent issue.

What Santis Did

Santis Health supported Medtech Canada with the creation of an urgent position paper on the shipping and supply chain crisis impacting Canada. Santis also worked with Medtech Canada to develop member engagement sessions and board presentations, draft the initial policy paper, revise the paper based on member feedback, develop a stakeholder map and conduct direct lobbying with outreach to key minister’s offices and officials in Ontario.

Outcomes

Key government officials and health system leaders were promptly educated on the issue, resulting in further engagement.
