Santis Health expands its Western Canada practice with the addition of Daniel Fontaine and James Mitchell

Vancouver, BC – January 10, 2023 — After launching its Western Canada practice last fall, Santis Health is expanding its presence in the region with the addition of Daniel Fontaine as an Associate and James Mitchell as a Senior Consultant.

“In the past three months, Santis set a foundation for success in Western Canada and is already helping clients across the health care system achieve their goals,” said Steve Vander Wal, Vice President, Western Canada. “The addition of Daniel and James further strengthens our team with the expert advice needed to service this region of the country.”

Daniel brings over 25 years of experience in the private and not-for-profit sectors, as well as government. He previously served in senior leadership roles including Deputy Minister and Chief Executive Officer of Métis Nation British Columbia, CEO of the BC Care Providers Association and Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Vancouver. Through these roles, Daniel has a unique perspective and understanding of the health care system, particularly the systemic barriers seniors and Indigenous people face accessing care. These unique insights, grounded in an equity lens, will aid in the strategic goals of Santis’ clients. Daniel also acutely understands the political environment in British Columbia, as an elected City Councillor in New Westminster.

James has worked in politics for over a decade, most recently as a consultant for political and non-profit campaigns. James has also regularly advised leaders across all three levels of government. He acted as Deputy Campaign Director on Ken Sim’s successful campaign to become Mayor of the City of Vancouver and he previously advised the Leader of Canada’s Official Opposition on a number of issues including health care policy in British Columbia.

“As Santis continues to grow and add new talent, we are able to offer deeper and more regionally targeted support to the health care and life sciences sectors in every part of the country,” said Patrick Nelson, Managing Partner at Santis Health. “Daniel and James join a team that has hit the ground running in three short months, demonstrating that Santis understands the landscape in Western Canada.”

Santis’ expansion in Western Canada comes after years of ongoing relationship-building. Daniel and James will join Santis Health’s Vancouver office, focused on strategic communications, policy analysis, public affairs, and advocacy in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
